Become a Crisis Volunteer
Crisis Volunteers answer texts from people in crisis, bringing them from a hot moment to a cool calm through active listening, collaborative problem solving, and safety planning. Crisis Volunteers work remotely anywhere with a computer and secure internet connection.
We ask our Crisis Volunteers to commit to 4 hours per week and complete a total of 200 hours. Though, of course, we hope they stay longer. It's a big commitment and is one that people find incredibly rewarding.
Our Crisis Volunteers complete the online application form, successfully complete the 30-hour online training course and are subject to reference checks and Garda vetting.
Complete the 30 minute application and consent to a background check.
Complete the 30 hour web-based training.
Take your first shift and start changing lives!
As a Crisis Volunteer you will:
Learn skills. In 30 hours, you’ll walk away knowing reflective listening, collaborative problem solving, and crisis management. (These are skills that will help in your personal relationships too!)
Train from anywhere. In your PJs. In a coffee shop. Wherever!
So impressive! Our Crisis Volunteers highlight the training on their CVs when interviewing for jobs, applying to university, and building their LinkedIn profiles.
Level up. Earn volunteer leadership positions. Get the first look at internships and job openings. Gain access to special privileges, including discounts and merch.
Hone your skills. Work alongside volunteers who are also social workers, therapists, and psychiatrists to sharpen your crisis counseling skills!
Feel supported. This is a community. We support each other. We are a big awesome family.
